What we believe

What We Believe

We believe in God, the living Spirit Almighty; one, indestructible, absolute, and self-existent Cause. This One manifests Itself in and through all creation, but is not absorbed by Its creation. The manifest universe is the body of God; it is the logical and necessary outcome of the infinite self-knowingness of God.

We believe in the incarnation of the Spirit in US, and that all PEOPLE are incarnations of the One Spirit.

We believe in the eternality, the immortality, and the continuity of the individual soul, forever and ever expanding.

We believe that HEAVEN is within US, and that we experience IT to the degree that we become conscious of It.

We believe the ultimate goal of life to be a complete emancipation from all discord of every nature, and that this goal is sure to be attained by all.

We believe in the unity of all life, and that the highest God and the innermost God is one God. We believe that God is personal to all who feel this indwelling Presence.

We believe in the direct revelation of Truth through our intuitive and spiritual nature, and that ANYONE may become a revealer of Truth who lives in close contact with the indwelling God.

We believe that the Universal Spirit, which is God, operates through a Universal Mind, which is the Law of God; and that we are surrounded by this Creative Mind which receives the direct impress of our thought and acts upon it.

We believe in the healing of the sick through the power of this Mind.

We believe in the control of conditions through the power of this Mind.

We believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving-kindness, and the eternal Givingness of Life to all.

We believe in our own soul, our own spirit, and our own destiny; for we understand that OUR LIFE is God.

-Dr. Ernest Holmes

Could this be what you think?

I don’t need to be “saved”… I was never lost.  The Bible, written, edited, interpreted and translated by
men, is not the Word of God.  It is a book using inspiring, interesting dreams, parables and stories
depicting man’s spiritual quest, but strongly flavored with the customs and cultures of almost two
centuries ago.

                                                                                          Here's what we think...

Jesus’ teachings are very relevant and useful for the 21st century, as are the teachings of many other Divine
inspired men and women.  Jesus was the great example not the great exception.

Dogma is for people who need structure and someone to teach them right from wrong.  We are not born sinners.
W
e are made in the image and likeness of God.  We have the potential for Wholeness and are responsible for
our choices, actions, experiences and the results they create.

Here’s what we think…

There is no devil.  God is all there is in the Universe.  There is only One Power and that Power is God.
God is Intelligence, Energy, Love, Abundance, Nature and Creativity.  Each person is a creation of God,
made in Its likeness and image, with the choice of how to use the Laws of the Universe for good or evil.
Evil is the creation of the individual as a result of his/her belief that one is separate from one’s own good,
which is God.

God does not ever deny or punish but has provided the Law of Cause and Effect that says that
whatever we believe, we create.  We experience the consequences of this freedom of choice,
never punishment from God.

The “Word” of God is the great causative Power of the Universe.  God is eternally initiating the
Divine Creative Process.  Since the human spirit is One with Universal Spirit, our thought is
Creative and we reenact in microcosm the Divine Creative Process in our lives.

Our church is a Spiritual Center for God’s Truth, Light and Universal Love through
the teaching and practice of the Science of Mind philosophy.

Here’s what we think…

Our daily devotion is to discover God within us and to reveal more of our true spiritual nature and potential.
People of all religions attend our church and are welcome to become members or not.

We are ready to greet you if you are ready to step onto a new and fulfilling spiritual path that fulfills
human needs in the 21st century.

We are a New Thought and not a New Age church.  Some of our Transcendentalist relatives were
Emerson, Whitman and Coleridge.

 =========================

Here’s what we are not…

We do not teach you what to think.  We support independent, positive, life-giving, affirmative thinking
as the approach to even the most difficult life situations.  We are not a cult devoted to or obsessed
with a person or a principle.  We do not worship a leader or a book, nor do we look to UFO’s, crystals,
tarot cards, or even Jesus to save us.  We deplore judgment and prejudice toward any person no matter
what their race, religion, or sexual orientation.

We do not proselytize, evangelize or attempt to convert anyone.

We are not the same as Christian Science and we have no association with Scientology.

Here’s who we are…

We are associated with United Centers for Spiritual Living.  This movement, previously known a Religious Science,
was founded in 1927 by Dr. Ernest Holmes.  Hundreds of our churches can be found across
America, Europe,
Australia, Russia and Africa.

Science of Mind and Christianity

In Religious Science, Christ is viewed as a universal principle rather than a person. It is the principle
of God expressing through humanity. Jesus of Nazareth was a human personality through which the
Christ Principle, or Divine Personality, expressed itself on Earth. The principle of Jesus Christ represents
the mystical marriage of our inner spirit with our outer personality. This union produces an expression
of Life that includes both, yet is greater than either. The potential for this expression lies within
each one of us. Therefore, Jesus is viewed as a great example for humanity, rather than the
great exception. Ernest Holmes, founder of the philosophy of Religious Science, says:

"Religious Science does not deny the divinity of Jesus; but it does affirm the divinity of all people.
It does not deny that Jesus was the son of God; but affirms that all beings are children of God.
It does not deny that the
Kingdom of God was revealed through Jesus; but affirms that the
Kingdom of God is also revealed through you and me."

Dr. Holmes came out of a Christian tradition. He studied all of the world's religions, and synthesized
what he saw to be the truths running through them all, free of any particular dogma. He began the
philosophy with the intention that all churches, especially Christian ones, would embrace the
philosophy and incorporate those teachings into their own. When that did not happen on a
large-scale basis, he allowed the people around him to talk him into starting a church to make
sure that the teachings would endure. His original intention was not to start a new religion.
Religious Science comes out of the Christian tradition in the sense that we believe in the
teachings of Jesus and use them to create a "Heaven on Earth".
